Press Release: Orbit Logic Incorporated is going mobile: The Sibyl App: Task an Imaging Satellite from a Handheld Device

GREENBELT, MD, (October 1st 2011) – Orbit Logic Incorporated is announcing the official unveiling of Sibyl, our new mobile satellite tasking app for Android. Originally developed as part of a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) contract for warfighter apps, Sibyl now is ready for integration into commercial and military operations.

The Sibyl app will allow users to define a target for imaging, review upcoming imaging satellite overflights that can meet target tasking constraints, and allow the user to select a specific satellite opportunity for tasking. Orbit Logic developed the Sibyl imaging satellite tasking app and associated server based on elements of its operationally proven Collection Planning and Analysis Workstation (CPAW) software. In addition to internal testing, Sibyl interfaces were successfully tested with a commercial satellite provider. These tests confirmed system interfaces and the accuracy of Sibyl’s standalone computations of candidate imaging opportunities.

“This is part of our strategy to extend our collection planning software onto different platforms for the warfighter and other users.” said Alex Herz, president of Orbit Logic. “Last fall we introduced our web-based Collection Feasibility Tool (CFT) on an iPad, and with Sibyl we extend a portion of our operationally proven tasking software to standalone capability on even smaller handheld devices. Stay tuned for another major platform announcement for Orbit Logic collection planning software coming later in 2011. ” Alex Herz, President of Orbit Logic.
